Here we are with this Monday’s blog post. For the first time on this blog, I get to talk about a city other than Vienna!

I like Trains

One thing that Europe does very well is trains. Let’s be honest, Amtrak is the worst. And let’s be honest again, flights are very cramped and uncomfortable. Trains are great! Sure they are slower than planes, but they are much more spacious and a lot less bumpy. Speaking of trains, This past weekend I had my first ever European train ride. Me and the group I traveled with got to the Westbahnhof station in Vienna around 06:20 and caught our 06:38 train to Salzburg. As we got closer to Salzburg, it started to get brighter as the sun was rising over the mountains. 2.5 hours later, we arrived.

Getting off the train, the crew walked towards the city center. I have some photos below of the sights.

Cemetary Sightseeing

The first thing we went to see was the Petersfriedhof Salzburg. It is supposedly the place that Mozart is buried, however no one knows where his grave actually is. The cemetery also had the catacombs which is one of the oldest ‘buildings” in Salzburg. The catacombs are also built into the side of the mountain which gave us great views of the city.

The Fortress

The big thing to see in Salzburg is the Fortress Hohensalzburg. It is a giant castle built on top of a hill overlooking the entire city. The view was stunning to say the least. The best part however was the museum inside, which had lots of firearms and other historical items

That’s basically all that happened in Salzburg. My group took the 18:50 train back to Vienna and I passed out at Das Mill.
